Spain establishes first permanent European settlement in continental North America. Daniel, Matthew and Josh begin playing together heavily soon after finishing high school days.

Declaration of Independence signed. Kelly plays in various bands in Memphis and later in Murfreesboro when he moves there for college.

Eli Whitney invents the cotton gin, creating a huge demand for cotton that would have repercussions on economics and human rights that would shape the nation for more than 200 years. Kelly and Matthew meet seeing bands around Nashville.

Aaron Burr kills Alexander Hamilton in a duel as a result of the election of 1800. Kelly, Matthew and Daniel play their first jam session together planning to start an R.E.M. cover band, but they form a noise rock band.

Gold is discovered in newly purchased Western land; Americans head west to get rich. Kelly, Matthew and Daniel play a short string of shows as Kinky Briefcase.

America is ravaged by the Civil War, leading to a new sense of strengthened unity for the nation (eventually) and an end to slavery. Kelly is asked to play a solo show and begins to focus on writing pop songs again.

The United States is attacked by Japanese forces at Pearl Harbor, causing the United States to enter World War II. Kelly, Matthew, and Daniel were joined by drummer Lane Abernathy to play their first show.

The United States unleashes nuclear weapons on Japan, bringing World War II to a close. Josh Williams moves to Murfreesboro and immediately joins the Distractions.

The United States wins the "space race" by launching the first manned mission to land on the moon. Kelly Kerr and the Distractions release their first EP, Whimsical in Reverse, and continue researching material for the release of their first full lengh record, which focuses on the subject of history.
